Information Adviser Nahid Islam States President Mohammad Shahabuddin Chuppu’s Resignation is a Political Decision, Timing Depends on Public Sentiment

Information and Broadcasting Adviser Nahid Islam said that the resignation of President Mohammed Shahabuddin Chuppu is a political decision that will be made within a reasonable timeframe, based on public sentiment.

Speaking to reporters at his office in the Ministry of Information on Wednesday, Nahid Islam said: “We formed the government on August 8 to ensure stability and security for the state. However, if the people feel that this setup needs to change, the government will certainly take that into consideration. The president’s resignation is not a legal issue but a political one.”

The adviser emphasized that a decision would be made soon, guided by political consensus and national unity.

“The stability and security of the country are of utmost importance right now, and the government is committed to preventing any disruptions,” he added.

Nahid Islam urged the public not to create chaos or rally in front of Bangabhaban.

“We have received the message from the people that they no longer want this president. The government understands this, and a decision will be taken in due time,” he said.

He also referenced the political shift on August 5, when the Awami League government collapsed following a mass coup led by a student movement, resulting in Sheikh Hasina leaving the country.

President Md Shahabuddin Chuppu addressed the nation, stating that Hasina had submitted her resignation, which he had accepted.

However, in a later interview with Manab Zamin newspaper Editor Matiur Rahman, the president mentioned that he had heard about the resignation but had no documentary evidence to confirm it.

“I have tried many times to collect the resignation letter but failed,” the president reportedly said.

These comments have fueled calls for the president’s resignation, with various groups, including the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, joining the demand for his departure.
