Desk News: Former Justice A.H.M. Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik has been shown as arrested in connection with six separate murder cases in Dhaka. On Wednesday, September 18, after a hearing, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md. Zaki Al Farabi approved the petitions to show Manik arrested in these cases.
Manik was presented before the court at around 8 AM, where the hearing took place in his presence. After the hearing, the court approved the petitions regarding his arrest in these cases.
The charges include the murder of garment worker Rubel under Adabor Police Station, the killing of first-year Ideal College student Khalid Hasan Saifullah under Lalbagh Police Station, and four other murder cases under Badda Police Station.
Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik was detained by the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) on August 23 from the border area of Kanaighat Upazila in Sylhet. He was arrested under Section 54 and produced before the court, where Senior Judicial Magistrate-1 of Sylhet, Judge Alomgir Hossain, ordered him to be sent to jail.
Although Manik was granted bail yesterday (September 17) by Sylhet’s Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Judge Anjan Kanti Das, he remains in custody due to multiple other cases pending against him.
