News Desk: The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Sylhet Battalion (48 BGB) seized 275 kg of Bangladeshi Hilsa fish while it was being smuggled to India.
The operation took place in the early hours of Wednesday, September 11, at around 5:30 AM in the Ghilatoli area of Doarabazar upazila in Sunamganj district.
According to BGB sources, a special patrol team from the Sylhet Battalion (48 BGB) under the Banglabazar Border Outpost (BOP) in Sunamganj conducted a raid in the Ghilatoli border area. During the operation, 275 kg of Bangladeshi Hilsa fish, valued at approximately BDT 5.5 lakh, was seized while being smuggled to India. The smugglers, sensing the presence of the BGB patrol, fled the scene, abandoning the fish. As a result, no arrests were made.
Lieutenant Colonel Md. Hafizur Rahman PSC, Commander of the Sylhet Battalion (48 BGB), stated that, in line with the directives of the interim government of Bangladesh, BGB is actively conducting operations and intelligence activities to safeguard border security and prevent smuggling. The seized 275 kg of Hilsa fish will be handed over to the local customs office for further action.
