440 Kg of Hilsa Seized at Cumilla Border During Smuggling Attempt to India

News Desk: Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has seized 440 kg of Hilsa fish while it was being smuggled to India through the Cumilla border.

According to a press release issued by BGB’s Cumilla Sector’s Sultanpur Battalion 60 on Friday (September 13) morning, the seizure was made during an anti-smuggling operation based on a tip-off.

The incident occurred on Thursday night around 12:30 AM in the Shashidal area of Brahmanpara, near the Bangladesh-India border. The BGB patrol team from Sultanpur Battalion 60 launched the operation in the area and, upon noticing the presence of the BGB, the smugglers fled, abandoning 17 boxes containing the 440 kg of Hilsa fish.

The fish were seized from the Monora area, 500 yards inside Bangladesh territory, near border pillar 2057/2-S.

Following the seizure, the fish were sold through a public auction in line with BGB regulations, fetching a total of BDT 968,000. The proceeds have been deposited into the national treasury.
