Sweets Distributed Across Villages as BNP Celebrates the Arrest of Former MP Fazle Karim Chowdhury

News Desk: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) celebrated the arrest of former influential Awami League Member of Parliament (MP) ABM Fazle Karim Chowdhury by distributing sweets and organizing victory processions across his constituency in Rauzan.

Chowdhury was apprehended by Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) at the Akhaura border in Brahmanbaria early Thursday morning (6 AM) while allegedly attempting to flee to India illegally.

Following the news of his arrest, the BNP, along with various groups including Krishak Dal, Jubo Dal, Chhatra Dal, and ordinary people who had faced repression, took to the streets to celebrate. Sweets were distributed, and victory rallies erupted in villages and wards across Rauzan, including areas like Pahartali, Bagowan, Kadolpur, Jalil Nagar, Gahira, and Haldia unions.

At 3 PM, a large procession led by Nurul Alam, president of the Union BNP, and General Secretary Mozaher Alam, supporters of former MP and BNP central executive committee vice-chairman Giasuddin Quader Chowdhury, marched from Pahartali Choumuhuni Bazaar to the CUET gate on the Chittagong-Kaptai Road. Other prominent BNP leaders like Abdul Mannan, Abu Jafar, and student leaders like Zahedul Islam and Kamrul Hasan Murad were also present.

Simultaneously, another massive rally was held in Bagowan Union, led by Yusuf Talukder, joint convener of the North District Volunteer Party. The rally marched from the Ghaschi Guest Community Center and paraded through the Ghaschi Bazaar on Chittagong-Kaptai Road, with the participation of several leaders including Mozaher Alam and Jubo Dal leader Md. Selim.

In Kadolpur Union, Jubo Dal leader Anwar Hossain Baclu led another rally, where protesters distributed sweets and demanded the execution of Fazle Karim Chowdhury, referring to him as a tyrant and murderer.

It is noteworthy that Fazle Karim Chowdhury was re-elected as MP from the Chittagong-6 constituency for the fifth consecutive term in January this year. However, since the student-led revolution on August 5, he has largely remained out of public view. He faces multiple charges, including burning the Quran, religious offenses, vandalism of worship places and businesses, attempted murder, looting, and arson. Two cases have been filed against him at Rauzan police station, and several more are pending in various courts and police stations in Chittagong.
