Desk News: In a recent government decision, commissioned officers of the Bangladesh Army have been granted executive magistrate powers for the next two months. This authority was conferred by a presidential order, detailed in a notification signed by Senior Assistant Secretary Jeti Pru of the Ministry of Public Administration on Tuesday, September 17. The army officers will hold these powers for the next 60 days from the date of the issuance.
Islamic scholar Mizanur Rahman Azhari welcomed the move, expressing his support on his official Facebook page. He stated, “I fully support the decision to grant executive magistrate powers to commissioned officers of the army. It is essential to maintain peace and public security at any cost. Offenders who disturb law and order must be brought to justice swiftly.”
Retired Lieutenant General Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, an advisor to the Ministry of Home Affairs, echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing that the public will benefit from this decision. He noted, “The army has long been serving the public in various capacities, and their role in maintaining peace and order will be further strengthened by these powers. This decision has been made to ensure public service and law enforcement.”
The move is seen as part of broader efforts to enhance security measures and maintain law and order across the country.
