Dr. Yunus: Sheikh Hasina Has Destroyed Every Institution in the Country

Desk News: Dr. Muhammad Yunus, Chief Advisor of the interim government, remarked that under the rule of Sheikh Hasina, every institution in the country has been destroyed.

Speaking during a courtesy meeting with the Netherlands Ambassador to Bangladesh, Irma Van Duuren, Dr. Yunus expressed the need to reinvent these institutions. He emphasized that the current government is committed to undertaking significant reforms in education, finance, labor sectors, the Election Commission, judiciary, civil administration, and business environment. He sought the Netherlands government’s support for these reforms.

Ambassador Irma Van Duuren assured full support from the Netherlands to the interim government and said that her country is committed to strengthening its relationship with Bangladesh across sectors such as agriculture, marine industries, youth, knowledge economy, labor, environment, and flood management.

Professor Yunus thanked the ambassador, stating that he has had a long-standing personal relationship with the Netherlands, both in leadership and business.

He added, “Under Sheikh Hasina’s autocratic rule, every institution in the country has been destroyed. We must reinvent these institutions, and the current government is committed to implementing key reforms in education, finance, labor sectors, the Election Commission, judiciary, civil administration, and business environment.”

Regarding the Rohingya crisis, the chief advisor stressed the importance of educating and training the Rohingya growing up in camps to ensure that their future is not doomed due to a lack of education.

Ambassador Van Duuren also highlighted that they are working to bring more Dutch investments in potential business clusters, including agriculture and water management.

Present at the meeting were Lamia Morshed, Senior Secretary on SDG Affairs, Kazi Russel Parvez, Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Dutch Deputy Ambassador Thijs Woudstra.
