News Desk: Former Minister of Cultural Affairs Asaduzzaman Noor and former State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism Md. Mahbub Ali have been sent to jail in connection with the murder of hotel employee Md. Siam Sardar.
On Monday afternoon (September 16), Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court Judge Mosharraf Hossain ordered the detention of both Noor and Ali following their appearance in court.
Police requested the court to keep the two former ministers in custody, while their defense lawyers sought bail. After hearing both sides, the judge rejected the bail request and ordered their imprisonment.
Asaduzzaman Noor was arrested late Sunday night from Nowraton Colony in Bailey Road, Dhaka, while Mahbub Ali was detained from Segunbagicha in the capital.
The case was filed on September 12 by Md. Sohag Sardar, the father of the deceased Siam Sardar, naming 114 individuals as accused. Asaduzzaman Noor is the 8th accused in the case, while Mahbub Ali’s name was not mentioned in the official charge sheet. However, he has been arrested as a suspect in the case.
Notable individuals also accused in the case include former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, former Inspector General of Police Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun, Harun-ur-Rashid, Monir Hossain, Awami League leader Mainul Hossain Khan Nikhil, and Kamal Ahmed Majumder.
According to the case statement, on the night of July 18, around 11 PM, Awami League members and their affiliate organizations allegedly opened fire indiscriminately on the orders of Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal near the Abu Taleb School in Mirpur-10. Siam Sardar, returning home after his shift at the hotel, was shot and killed in the incident.
