Desk News: Foreign Affairs Advisor Md. Tawhid Hossain mentioned the possibility of a meeting between Nobel Laureate Dr. Muhammad Yunus and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the upcoming BIMSTEC Summit. This statement came during a press conference at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where Bangladesh’s participation in the United Nations General Assembly and other contemporary issues were discussed.
The Foreign Affairs Advisor stated, “I had a meeting with India’s Foreign Minister in New York. We couldn’t establish communication at the highest level, as our Chief Advisor arrived a day after India’s Prime Minister had left. There won’t be an opportunity at the Commonwealth Summit in Apia, Samoa (October 21-26), as the Indian Prime Minister will not attend. He will be focusing on the BRICS Summit, which is of greater importance to them. Our Chief Advisor will also not be attending the Commonwealth Summit.”
Tawhid Hossain further mentioned, “There might be an opportunity next month. A BIMSTEC summit is expected, although the dates are yet to be finalized. There is a possibility it will take place in November, where bilateral communication could happen. We are also attempting to address mutual concerns through various channels.”
This potential meeting between Dr. Yunus and Modi could serve as a key opportunity for Bangladesh and India to strengthen bilateral relations amid ongoing regional developments.
